Maureen Phlegar, 74, of Summerville, SC, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024 at MUSC.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday evening, August 21, 2024 from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock at Parks Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted. Burial will be private.
Maureen was born November 13, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of the late Frank McKay and Hannah McKee. She was an Administrative Assistant for Charleston and Dorchester counties and was active in the quilting and fitness communities. She was a friend of Bill W. for 27 years and on the Board of Mental Health Heros. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, and a friend to all that knew her.
Maureen leaves behind her son, Ian Phlegar (Julie) of Summerville, SC; daughter, Erica Jean Phlegar also of Summerville, SC; brothers, Frankie McKay (Linda) of Inverness, FL, Bill McKay (Geri) of Cateret, NJ, and Tommy Simmons (Helen) of Seaside, NJ; sister, Debbie Greco (Dave) of NJ; step-mother, Catherine McKay of Jersey City, NJ; grandchildren, Tyler Romero, Hannah Gore, Shelby Bateman (Matthew), Connor Phlegar, and Evan Phlegar; and a great-grandson, Dawson Bateman. In addition to her mother and father, she is predeceased by her spouse of 42 years, Theodore J. Phlegar, Jr.
