Michael Smith Obituary

Michael Thomas Smith, 48, husband of Jennifer Smith, of Moncks Corner, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020.

Mike was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, on February 29, 1972. He was the son of Earl and Elizabeth Smith. He graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC, and Nashville Auto Diesel College. He was in the process of working on a degree in Electrical Engineering through Trident Technical College and The Citadel. He was employed with Boeing as a predictive maintenance technician for more than 7 years. Mike’s friends and family will remember fondly his love of travel, ATV’s, 80’s music (specifically Rush), The Walking Dead, conversation sparking T-shirts, snow skiing, rescuing and fostering dogs, cringe- worthy jokes, quoting movies (especially Airplane!), comedy shows, and laughing, joking with and giving everyone he met a hard time.

They will also remember that Mike was kind, considerate and hardworking man. He inspired others throughout his life in small and large ways. And while he wasn’t perfect, he was a perfectionist when it came to home projects (he hated any degree that wasn’t 90). Jennifer is comforted in knowing that despite losing “her person”, Mike has joined his long beloved dog, Oscar, over that rainbow bridge.

Mike is survived by his wife of 9 years, Jennifer; his three 4-legged children, Hokie, Maggie and Ali-B; Michelle and Dwayne Hinton, Meghan Shockley, Maria and Tom Duffy, Jacob Lockhart, Melissa, Jamie, Nick and Thomas Griffin, Margot and Chuck Monroe, Brandon Latta and Amber Latta-Frankle, Brian and Todd Bonavitacola, Bridget Harrison, and his best friend, Barret Garner. Mike was predeceased by his parents; his Aunt Phyllis Bonavitacola; his grandparents, Mable and Arthur Thorwarth and Earl and Charlotte Smith, as well as his best friend Roy Kibling.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Charleston Animal Society, www.charlestonanimalsociety.org.
