Millard Driscoll Obituary

Long time resident of Summerville Lieutenant Commander Millard (Bill) James Driscoll, United States Navy (Ret.), 79, passed away the night of March 8th, 2024 at Summerville Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Parks Funeral Home, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Burial for LCDR Driscoll will be with his wife in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date.

Millard Driscoll, born March 2,1945 in Middletown, New York, was the son of Francis Patrick Driscoll (1919 -1995) and Elsie Old (Heath) Driscoll (1919 -1999).

LCDR Driscoll graduated from the University of Maryland in 1980 and Webster University in 1981 with a Master’s of Science Degree in Health Service Administration. He was a life member of the Military Officers of America Association; a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, American Philatelic Society, Perfins Club, and a longtime member of the National Rifle Association.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1962, serving as a Hospital Corpsman until 1975 when, as a Chief Petty Officer, he was commissioned an Ensign in the Medical Service Corps. LCDR Driscoll retired from the Navy in 1990 after a 4-year assignment as the Officer in Charge, Branch Medical Clinic Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, SC.

During his career he served around the world with both the Navy and the US Marine Corps in New York, Bermuda, California, Guam, Okinawa, Japan, Italy, Spain, Ohio and South Carolina. Among other awards, LCDR Driscoll earned the Navy Achievement Commendation, and Meritorious Service medals. He was awarded 4 Good Conduct Medals for his enlisted service through the rank of Master Chief.

He was a lifelong runner, until injuries stopped him; competing in numerous 5 & 10K races. After retiring, he was an active volunteer in his community and various hobby organizations including 23 years as the cover sales chairman for the Perfins Stamp Club.

LCDR Driscoll is survived by two sons, Patrick James Driscoll of Summerville and Micheal Dennis Driscoll (Debbie Ann Van Dine) of Moncks Corner; a sister, Melanie Melissa Driscoll of Aiken and many grand-children and great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his loving wife of 45 years, Judy Kay (Reno) Driscoll, who passed in 2009.
