Nancy R. Ball died peacefully in her sleep the morning of June 6, 2026. She was born on July 7, 1936, in Massachusetts as the only child of Howard and Virginia Richardson. In college at Vermont University, while studying to acquire a degree in English, she met her soul-mate of 57 years, the late Raymond F. Ball. Nancy graduated, and they built a life together, settling in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she worked tirelessly in Child Protective Services and later retired from Dutchess County Social Services.
She is survived by her three daughters, Cyndi Griffin (Bill) of Freeville, NY, Barbie Cronin, of Summerville, SC, and Laura Vandygrift (Greg) of Charleston, SC; Grandchildren, Zach and Lexi Griffin, Jenny Cronin, and Tyler and Jordan Vandygrift; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as grandnieces and nephews.
Friends and family remember Nancy as the sweetest, kindest person who was always shining a light in their lives and devoted herself to everyone she knew. She loved butterflies and angels, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. Her smile, which lit up any room and warmed everyone’s hearts, will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
