Richard Dean Paxton, 63, of Summerville, passed away; a visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483, Flowers are accepted.
Richard was born on August 9, 1962, to the late Roger Paxton and Shirley Paurus Paxton. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for eight years as a sonar electronics technician aboard submarines. Following his service, Richard built a long and skilled career as a car and heavy equipment mechanic, eventually retiring from United Rentals.
Richard had a deep love for reading, gun collecting, and automobiles, and he especially enjoyed classic metal and rock music, with favorites including Disturbed and Bob Seger. A native of Menahga, Minnesota, he was known for his easygoing, laid-back nature and his constant willingness to show up for others. Richard had a playful sense of humor, often joking and being silly, which brought smiles to those around him. Above all, he was a devoted and involved parent and grandparent, whose love and support will be deeply missed.
Richard is survived by his mother, Shirley Paurus Paxton of Menanga, MN; daughter, Alicia Bell of Moncks Corner, SC, Amanda Walp of Lompoc, CA; brother, Michael Paxton (Debbie) of St. Augustine; sister, Lisa Yliniemi (Duey) of Perham, MN; along with 5 grandchildren, Aspen, Selah, Grayson, River, and Riley. He is predeceased by his father, Roger Paxton.
