Richard Seastrunk Obituary

On Thursday, March 26, 2020, Richard David Seastrunk, 80, entered eternal rest at his home in Summerville, SC. The son of the late T. A. and Mary Sue Price Seastrunk, he was born in Columbia, SC in May of 1939.

Richard graduated from Summerville High School and Newberry College. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of both schools for his excellence on the football field, was named Little All American, and set many state and school records, some of which he still holds today. He later served in the SC Air National Guard as a medic. Additionally, Richard earned graduate degrees from The Citadel.

Richard spent his life making a difference in the lives of children. His career included coaching, teaching, and administration, later retiring as the Director of Federal Programs and Testing for Dorchester School District II. Richard was instrumental in bringing computers into the classroom for the district. He served his community sitting on the Board of Directors for both Dorchester Career Center and St. Luke's Children's Center.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, his children, Lynn, Richard D. II, Will (Katrina), and David (Mattie), his sisters, Carolyn English of Summerville, SC, Bobbie Haskell of Burnsville, NC, and Ann (David) Crouch of Greenwood, SC.

Out of respect for the Governor's directive, a memorial will be planned at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Parks Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted at the home. Memorials may be made to the church or charity of one's choice made in his name.
