Richard “Ricky” Franklin Sweat, Jr., 76, of Summerville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 11 o’clock at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Burial will follow at Summerville Cemetery, 1128 Boonehill Road, Summerville, SC 29483. Flowers are accepted or memorials can be made in honor of Ricky to Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 West 3rd South Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
Ricky was born on November 23, 1948 to the late Richard Sweat, Sr., and Arlene Rittenhouse. For 17 years Ricky spent in the Army National Guard serving his country. During his lifetime, he spent years working at Sweats Dirt Hauling and more than 18 years working for Bosch as a machinist operator. After retiring from Bosch he then went on to work in the maintenance department for DD2. He was a Rotary Member and a part of the Shriners Club. He enjoyed coaching kids in baseball and basketball, going golfing, and watching the Summerville Green Wave football games. Ricky was known as the “family handyman” because he was always willing to fix a problem someone may have had. Most importantly, Ricky cherished all the times he got to spend with his family.
Ricky is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn O. Sweat; son, Richard F. Sweat III; and daughter, Crystal Sweat. Grandchildren, Cade Sweat and Madison Sweat. He is predeceased by his father, Richard Sweat, Sr.; mother, Arlene Rittenhouse; and step father, Earl Rittenhouse; sisters, Cynthia Hanna and Rose Mary Hilton
