S.C.P.O. Richard Edward Ward, UNS Retired, husband of Suzanne Ward, of Goose Creek, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, Friday, August 9, 2024, at Parks Funeral Home, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the time of service.
Richard was born in Charleston, SC on October 21, 1942. He was the son of Henry Wyatt Ward and late Eleanor Ely Ward. Richard was a 1960 graduate of Bishop England High School and a 1982 graduate of Trident Technical College. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Charleston in 1991. Richard served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman for twenty years at various duty stations, including New London, CT, Newport, RI, Charleston, SC, Jacksonville, FL, Mayport, FL and Lemoore, CA. He had sea duty on the USS Belknap, the USS Horne, the USS Mahan, and the USS Hunley.
After retiring from the Navy, he was employed at Baker Hospital Charleston, SC as the Director of Information Systems and later retired from Blue Cross of South Carolina where he was a Systems Analyst. He was a former member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) where he held the designation of Certified Manager of Patient Accounts (CMPA). Richard traveled extensively, both in the U.S and abroad. He especially looked forward to cruising with his wife, Suzanne. His travels both in the Navy and in retirement, took him to four continents, many island nations, above the Artic Circle and around South American and to many US states.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne, of Goose Creek, SC; sons, Terence Ward (Kathy) of Wilmington, NC and Robert Ward of Mt. Pleasant; step-sons, Roy Lee Hogsett (Barbara) of Glouster, OH, and Loren Hogsett (Susan) of Folly Beach, SC; one step-daughter, Teresa Keeman of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two sisters, Claire Branch of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Linda Sue Cotter of Texas. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard E. Ward; brothers, James Ward, Wyatt Ward, Floyd Ward and Michael Ward; son in law, Peter Keeman; granddaughter, Amanda Hogsett; great-grandchild, Colin Hogsett and a great-great- grandchild, Stella Camden.
