Robert Raymond Monnet

Robert “Bob” Monnet, 90, of Summerville, SC passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2023, following a series of health issues associated with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Bob was born on April 18, 1933, in Monett, MO. He is the oldest of 3 sons of Raymond and Ruby Monnet. Bob received an athletic scholarship from the University of Alabama where he played football and baseball until he was drafted into the Army. Upon returning from his tour of duty, he transferred to Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN where he was a standout athlete in football and baseball. It was during this time that Bob met the former Shirley Thomas of Hohenwald, TN. Bob and Shirley married during his senior year at APSU. After graduation, Bob started his coaching career and soon moved his family to Birmingham, AL where he was high school Coach and Administrator for 10 years. It was at this time that fate brought Bob and his family to Summerville, SC where he would start a lifelong career in athletic sales and service. Bob was a pioneer in the athletic reconditioning industry in North and South Carolina receiving numerous accolades and awards recognizing him as a top performer in the industry throughout his career.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and was an accomplished coach for Sertoma football and Dixie Youth baseball in Summerville through the years. He coached countless youngsters who went on to be standout athletes at Summerville High School. His hobbies included leather crafts, wood working, and playing the guitar. Bob and Shirley are founding members of Dorchester Presbyterian Church in Summerville.

Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Monnet; son, Mike Monnet (Kim, Mattie); daughter, Robin Monnet; son, Russ Monnet (Kim, Todd, and Tommy); brother, Howard Monnet of Rochester, MN; and brother, John Monnet of Edgewood, IL.

A Memorial Service will be held at Dorchester Presbyterian Church in Summerville, SC. The service will begin at 11:00 on November 18, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Dorchester Presbyterian Church in memory of Bob Monnet.
