Robert Edward Ponte, 90, of Summerville passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
A Graveside service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 2 o’clock at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St, Beaufort, SC 29902.
Robert was born in Modesto, CA to the late Manuel and Evelyn Ponte. He had a long successful career in the military. Robert served in the Vietnam War, flew embassy duty overseas and briefly at the pentagon with various heads of state. He was a good golfer, once playing in a tournament for the air force. Robert also loved fishing and rescuing stray animals. For 69 years he spent married to the love of his life, Dolores A. Ponte.
Robert is survived by his son, Doug Ponte of Eutawville, SC; daughters, Lisa P. Richmond of Chapel Hill, NC, Dana P. Katz of Summerville, SC; brother, James Ponte of Lake Tahoe; along with 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Dolores A. Ponte; parents, Manuel and Evelyn Ponte; and brother, Manuel Ponte.
