Robert “Tex” Thomas Russell, Jr., 67, of Moncks Corner, SC, passed away September 7, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 4, 2025 at 1 o’clock at American Legion Post 166, 116 Howe Hall Road, Goose Creek, SC 29445. A Memorial Service will be held on October 24, 2025 from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock at Vicky’s Hinterhof, 719 W San Antonio Street, New Braunfels, TX 78130. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Tex to the Low Country ABATE Salvation Army Toy Run.
He honorably served in the United States Navy as a First Class Diver, making multiple deployments around the world. He was an accomplished sprinter, hurdler, and long jumper clearing hurdles “with the greatest of ease and grace” and was also a bull rider in Texas. He held multiple positions with Low Country ABATE and Berkeley Dorchester ABATE. Tex was a true lover of “being in the wind” on his Harley Davidson, traveling all over the country. He was the CEO and co-founder of the custom leather shop CowHydes in Summerville.
Tex leaves behind Denyse Walsh of Murphy, NC; father, Robert Thomas Russell, Sr. of New Braunfels, TX; sisters, Zina Russell Meeker and Nina Russell Stanfield, both of New Braunfels, TX; stepchildren, Danielle Margera of Ft Lauderdale, FL and Melanie Walsh of Cumming, GA, both formerly of Summerville; and step-grandchild, Micah Ravi. He is predeceased by his mother, Tressie Mae Russell.
