Sarah Doyle Pusey, 94, of Summerville, SC, widow of Colonel Frank Olin Pusey, United States Air Force (deceased), died peacefully on March 23, 2026. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, 316 West Carolina Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483.
Mrs. Pusey was born at McLeod Infirmary in Florence, SC, on July 6, 1931, to Joseph Ambrose Doyle and Ruth Hattie Hazard Doyle. She was valedictorian of the 1950 graduating class of Winyah High School, Georgetown, SC. After graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1954 from Converse College, Spartanburg, SC, she taught history at North Charleston High School for two years. In October of 1956, she married her second-grade sweetheart, Frank O. Pusey. Mrs. Pusey lovingly spent the rest of her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed singing, dancing, reading, beach walks, and relaxing on the back porch with her family and friends. Most importantly, her faith in Christ never wavered, and she will always remain a beautiful testament to Christ’s unconditional love.
Mrs. Pusey was a 13th-generation descendant of Thomas Hazard, signer of the 1639 Newport Compact to found Newport, RI, and a collateral descendant of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry and his brother Commodore Matthew C. Perry. Her great-grandfather, Benjamin Ingell Hazard, relocated the family to Georgetown, SC, in 1840. She is predeceased by her elementary school sweetheart and loving husband of 68 years, Col. Frank Olin Pusey, USAF, her oldest brother Joseph Ambrose Doyle, Jr., her older sister Jonathan "Johnnie" Ingell Hazard Doyle Hale, her triplet brothers Ingell Hazard Doyle, Arthur Hazard Doyle, and Patrick James Doyle, and her double first cousin Frances Ingell Doyle, M.D. Surviving are four children: Ruth Pusey Passarello (Mike) of Summerville, SC, Frank Olin Pusey, Jr., M.D. (Michelle) of Blythewood, SC, Elizabeth Pusey Ashenfelter (Michael) of Summerville, SC, and Edward Joseph Pusey (Tanya) of Anderson, SC. Her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren brought her infinite joy.
The family of Mrs. Sarah Doyle Pusey would like to especially thank The Villages of Summerville and AGAPE Hospice Services for their kind and loving care.
