Shirley Jean Barker

Shirley J. Barker, 90, of Summerville, SC passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at her residence.

Funeral Services will be Thursday morning, October 12, 2023 at 10 o’clock at Summerville Community Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock at Parks Funeral Home. Shirley was born August 7, 1933 in Spartanburg, SC. She did clerical work for the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was the community service leader for 35 years for the SDA Church. Shirley also volunteered with ADRA for hurricanes and disaster relief.

Shirley leaves behind her sons, Dennis Barker of Hanahan, SC, Larry Barker of Ladson, SC, and Bobby Joe Barker of Summerville, SC; daughter, Shirleen Barker Boone of Brooksville, FL; sisters, Sybil Kessler of Charleston, SC and Peggy Prosser of Homosassa, FL; grandchild, Tiffany Deas; and a great-grandchild, Skyler Deas. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, cat, and birds. Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Bob Barker; parents, Floyd and Bessie Bowers; grandparents, John and Florence Cantrell and James and Harriet Bowers; brother, Richard Barker; and granddaughter, Angie Thommen.
