Verna Hoover, widow of L. Dawson Hoover, went home to be with her Lord on October 1, 2021.
She was born in Cottageville, SC on November 30, 1931, to Ervin William Bazzle and Bessie Jackson Bazzle. Growing up on the family farm, she learned early the necessity and value of hard work. Verna served God from an early age, first at Red Oak Pentecostal Holiness Church and, following her marriage, at Ridgeville Baptist Church where she was an active participant in the life of the church.
She leaves behind to treasure her memory a son, Robert Hoover (Lynn) of Ridgeville, a daughter, Kathy McLaughlin of North Charleston, and a foster daughter, Sylvia Graves (Ernie) of Walterboro. Beloved grandchildren include Matt Hoover (Lis) of Ridgeville, Whit Hoover (Katie), Caroline Edmondson (Luke), and Laura Hoover (fiancé Mike Smoragiewicz), all of Charleston, Andrew McLaughlin (Brittany) of Houston, Texas, Molly Taylor of North Charleston, and Jessica Krauel (Jay) of Summerville. Her great-grandchildren were precious to her and include Ben Hoover, Charlotte Hoover, Sam Hoover, Joe Hoover, Fletcher Edmondson, Noah Taylor, Jaelyn Krauel, and Juliette Krauel. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, William F. (Buddy) Bendt of Charleston, Ed Hoover of Summerville and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Verna was predeceased by three sisters, Myrtle Driggers, Dorothy Bendt, and Ann Baker, three brothers, Carl Bazzle, Mood Bazzle, and Ed Bazzle, and her son-in-law, Timothy McLaughlin. The family would like to thank Jeanette Washington for her years of special care for the Hoovers and being part of our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connie Maxwell Children's Ministries, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648-1178.
