William Bennett McCollough, 74, passed away on April 14, 2025, in Summerville, South Carolina. Born on December 3, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina, Bennett lived a life marked by dedication to his profession, a deep love for the outdoors, and an enduring connection to those around him.
Bennett completed his legal education at the University Of South Carolina School Of Law and went on to practice in the town of Kingstree for 45 years. His long-standing service to the community included roles as the Town of Kingstree’s Municipal Judge and President of the Williamsburg County Bar Association—positions that reflected his devotion to civic duty.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bennett was known for his vibrant personality and zest for life. He never met a stranger and was cherished by those closest to him for his vitality, sense of humor, and strong will. A true lover of the outdoors, Bennett found joy in beach days and was especially fond of sailing his Hobie Cat during his younger years. His passions extended to gardening, fishing, biking, and flying. Bennett also had a mechanical curiosity that led him to countless hours tinkering with cars, his airplane, and his motorcycle.
Bennett was deeply rooted in the Christian faith—a guiding presence in his life.
He is survived by his daughters, Katherine Early McCollough and Colleen Bennett McCollough.
Bennett was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Lawrence McCollough, and father, James Bennett McCollough.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were touched by his remarkable life.
